SPINAL DECOMPRESSION FOR BACK PAIN IN FORT WORTH
Treatment for back pain is often medication and physical therapy. When these treatments fail surgery often becomes the next course of treatment. Research has shown that an estimated 8 million unnecessary back surgeries are performed a year. The unfortunate thing for many patients is that they would often benefit from spinal decompression therapy in Fort Worth.

A more conservative option available is spinal decompression. Many underlying causes of back pain respond well to this type of treatment. Spinal decompression works using technology to stretch the spine thus reducing pressure on the intervertebral discs and vertebra.
It is common to see chronic low back pain be a result of degenerative disc disease, disc herniation or bulging discs. Other common conditions include, but are not limited to:
- Spondylolisthesis
- Spinal stenosis
- Sciatica
- Failed back surgery
Spinal decompression utilizes mechanical traction which allows for specific force at a specific angle for distraction on the disc. By using a computer, we are able to minimize the body's natural response to fight force. By being able to minimize the body's natural urge to resist, we can enhance the amount of nutrients and blood flow that assists the body's healing process.
WHAT TO EXPECT
It is most common to receive 16-24 treatments depending on the clinical exam. When a patient receives their first round of treatment, sessions will last 12 minutes and the patient might be asked to visit 2-3x/week. Spinal decompression is not just a way to treat back pain, but can also be used for acute and chronic neck pain. Patients must be eighteen years or older in order to receive this therapy. There have not been any safety issues or adverse side effects reported. Even though this is the case, patients and technicians are equipped with an emergency stop. It has been reported by patients that they experienced mild muscles spasms for a short time after treatment.
Overall, the majority of the patients that have received spinal decompression have reported significant improvement in their condition and a better quality of life. There is generally notable improvement after at least 5 treatments.
If you have suffered any recent spinal fractures or had surgical fusion or metal spinal implants then you are not a candidate for this type of treatment. An evaluation will be performed prior to treatment to make sure that you are a qualified patient. Our team at Malloy Chiropractic & Wellness Center in Fort Worth is here to help you recover.
